Double Peak Park Geocaching

Today Mae and I were planning on hiking up to Double Peak Park from Discovery Lake and geocaching along the way. We were running a little late so we decided to start a little higher up the trail instead of from the lake, so we drove up to the neighborhood right below one of the water tanks along the trail. Little did we know that the trail to Double Peak was still closed off from the Coco's Fire in May. So we decided to just go geocaching by Double Peak since there were a few geocaches within a short walking distance from the top of the park.

The first geocache we attempted was called Double Peak Park and it was located right by the pavillion. We ventured a little too far into the brush, which is what we usually end up doing when we try to find a geocache lol.

The 2nd geocache was down the hill from the park right by the water tank. This one was called Tank Top.

I love when geocachers write little riddles and puns in the descriptions/hints!

Mae and I quite liked this geocache box. It was an old and rusted tin box that camouflaged well where it was hidden! Can you spot it?

For the last geocache, we walked down the hill a little further and found a steep trail we saw that seemed to lead to the geocache coordinates. Unfortunately we didn't find this one. The coordinates must have been wrong, which is what other geocachers logged as well. But on the bright side, we got in a good workout climbing the extremely steep trail! And we did a lot of "bushwacking" and had to navigate through lots of bushes and tree branches.

We discovered that this trail actually lead to the very end of the top of the park! We also got very close to where the fires were and snapped a few pictures. It was very depressing, especially for me since the Coco's Fire had reached JUST outside my neighborhood (about 3 house-lengths away from MY house) back in May. But the scene was also hauntingly beautiful in a way. A lot of my friends say it "looks like The Lion King". I should have taken more pictures, or at least moved my camera a little more to the right so you can see the burned mountainside is literally next to the park.

We were starving by the time we gave up on the last geocache so we got some acai bowls at Better Buzz! I had been craving it and this hit the spot!

Mae's student cancelled on her tutoring session with Mae so we decided to use that newfound freetime after lunch to go thrifting at Valley Thrift in Escondido! It's one of my favorite thrift stores since it has a wide range of items. Mae got a few cute shirts and I found some books, a puzzle (my brother and I have been randomly wanting to do a puzzle), and an Ariel shirt I just couldn't resist getting!
